SynergEbooks Acquires Exclusive eBook Contracts from Zander eBooks
Today SynergEbooks announced a definitive agreement to acquire all exclusive ebook contracts currently owned by Zander eBooks. SynergEbooks was founded in March of 1999 by Debra Staples of North Carolina. In only 4 years, it has established itself as a business with a firm foothold in electronic publishing, and has already expanded to include CD-ROMs and paperbacks, with 31 books in print, and 10 more due out by the end of this year. This acquisition will increase SynergEbook's ebook holdings to include several EPPIE-nominated and one EPPIE-award-winning ebook title. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
"It's important to both companies that the authors are not left without a home," said Staples, SynergEbooks Publisher and Executive Editor.
SynergEbooks is a member of EPPRO [Electronically Published Professionals, SPAN [Small Publisher's Association of North America, EPC [Electronic Publisher's Coalition and the Publisher's Marketing Association [PMA. Their eBook titles can be found on many other online retailer sites such as Amazon.com, eBookAd.com, CyberRead, eBookHome.com, BookBooters, Content Reserve, eBooks.com, Barnes & Noble and many more. In February, 2003, the company announced that their first print title, "Clearwater" by Bobby Woodall, is now part of Wal-Mart's electronic site (Walmart.com), with more titles to follow.
Zander eBooks was founded in July, 2000, by John and Erica Rosch, general partners. The founders will gradually phase out their involvement in the ebook industry, with plans to close their virtual doors for good by December, 2003. "We are happy with our contributions to this emerging and ever-evolving industry, and are optimistic about the future of ebooks. We are impressed by the marketing strategies that SynergEbooks has adopted to ensure the success of each and every title they publish," said Erica Rosch about the acquisition. "Our decision to close our doors derived from our need to focus more time and attention on our other business ventures at this time." The Roschs also own Zander Consulting, an e-commerce and web design consulting firm, as well as Sheepshead Store, LLC, an online retailer of card games, books & software related to the German games of Sheepshead, Skat and Doppelkopf.
"Zander eBooks and SynergEbooks share a common vision for the future of eBooks," said John Rosch. "We are confident that our authors are in good hands, and will receive the individualized attention they deserve."
All of Zander's exclusive ebook titles will transfer to the SynergEbooks website by May 15, while the ZanderEbooks website will continue to refer visitors through November, 2003.
